“But she didn’t mention names” – Reactions as Sophia Momodu takes legal action against Caroline Hutchings, demands N10 billion in damages

Nigerian socialite and reality star Sophia Momodu has taken legal action against her fellow reality star, Caroline Hutchings, popularly known as Caroline Danjuma.

Kemi Filani reported a few days ago that Caroline, via a Snapchat post, alleged that a woman she had once defended on national television had been involved with her former partner while they were still in a relationship. See the post here.

Following the viral post, Sophia served the former wife of Musa Danjuma with a Notice of Intended Legal Proceedings, demanding an immediate retraction, an unreserved public apology, substantial monetary compensation, and other reliefs, arising from an alleged defamatory social media publication.

The Notice, issued by Prince (Dr.) Richard Oma Ahonaruogho, SAN, Principal Counsel of Ahonaruogho, Ahonaruogho & Co. (Paradise Law Firm), alleges that a Snapchat post made by Caroline Hutchings was widely interpreted by members of the public as referring to Sophia Momodu, resulting in serious reputational harm, emotional distress and sustained cyberbullying.

Although Caroline did not expressly name anyone, the Notice states that the publication generated widespread speculation on social media, with numerous users identifying Sophia Momodu as the person allegedly being referred to. According to the Notice, the resulting online reactions subjected Sophia Momodu to cyberbullying, ridicule, malicious comments and attacks on her character, integrity and reputation.

The Notice further states that, in an effort to resolve the matter amicably without resorting to litigation, Sophia Momodu personally reached out to Caroline Hutchings on 3rd July 2026, requesting that if the publication was not directed at her, she should issue a public clarification on the same platform stating that Sophia Momodu was not the person referred to.

According to the Notice, despite receiving the message, Caroline Hutchings neither responded nor provided any clarification, allowing speculation and the public narrative to continue.

The legal notice states that the publication caused Sophia Momodu considerable embarrassment, emotional distress, reputational harm and injury to her standing among members of the public, her family, friends, business associates and society at large.

The lawsuit has stirred reactions online, with many noting how Caroline didn’t mention her name.
