A heated exchange reportedly broke out between a man and some Nigerian police officers after he questioned one of the officers over the absence of a name tag or identification number on his uniform.
In a video capturing the incident, the man was heard challenging the officer, demanding to know why he was not wearing a name tag or displaying an identification number that could help members of the public identify him.
The question reportedly sparked an argument, with the officer responding angrily to the man’s remarks.
During the exchange, the officer was heard asking, “Can you talk to bandits or armed robbers this way? So I must put on my name tag before you know I’m a police officer?”
The officer’s response appeared to intensify the disagreement, as both parties continued exchanging words over the issue.
The incident has drawn attention to the importance of police identification and the relationship between law enforcement officers and members of the public. While police officers are responsible for maintaining law and order, citizens may also seek clarification about an officer’s identity, particularly during an encounter.
The video has sparked conversations about police conduct, accountability and the need for respectful communication between officers and civilians.
