Former media aide to the late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, on Monday slammed former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, for challenging President Bola Tinubu to a Qur’anic citation.
Ahmad described the challenge as insulting. He insisted that it was disrespectful for Melaye to issue such a challenge.
Recall that Melaye, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, had challenged Tinubu to a Qur’anic citation competition when he returns from Umrah in Saudi Arabia.
Noting that God can’t be mocked, Melaye posted on X: “Now that Alhaji Bola Tinubu is in Umrah, immediately he comes back, I challenge him to a Quranic citation competition with me, no one can mock God.”
DAILY POST reports that after performing one of his prayer routines, Tinubu declared that being the President of Nigeria and Commander-in-Chief is a favour from almighty Allah.
Tinubu said: “I feel fulfilled and grateful to the Almighty Allah for giving us the opportunity, the health, the day that went very well. The prayers are for Allah to comfort our diversity, Nigeria is full of diverse people, it’s made up of all the faiths.
“So, I have faith and I believe extremely well that he has done me and my country a great favour. Out of millions of people, to be the President and Commander-in-Chief is a favour from God Almighty.
“My commitment is to bring prosperity and develop the country consistently with the wish of Allah and the support of the people.
“It’s important to put Allah first then move on, follow your conscience, follow the right path that will lead Nigeria to that greatness, the foundation is solid, the economy has come out of the dark tunnel, it’s inspiring, we need to build a future for our youths.”
Reacting to Melaye’s post, Ahmad posted on X: “This is nothing short of insulting, especially coming from someone who cannot even spell the name of the Holy Qur’an correctly.
“It is quite ironic to show such disrespect while failing to get the very name of the sacred text right. Try again, senator.”
