Violence broke out in parts of Paris and other French cities after France’s 2-0 defeat to Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final, prompting a heavy police response as disappointed supporters took to the streets.
According to reports, some fans set fires, damaged property and clashed with police after the final whistle, while security forces were deployed to restore order in affected areas. Videos circulating online showed burning barricades, fireworks and confrontations between protesters and law enforcement.
The unrest followed Spain’s victory over France, which ended Les Bleus’ hopes of reaching a third consecutive FIFA World Cup final. While many supporters dispersed peacefully, authorities said isolated incidents of violence and vandalism required police intervention.
Officials urged residents to remain calm and warned that anyone involved in violence or destruction of property would be held accountable as security agencies continued monitoring the situation.
