“Child’s Safety Is Our Priority” — Police Probe Viral Video Of Woman Giving Bitters To Baby, Seek Public Help For Arrest

The Nigeria Police Force has opened an urgent investigation into a disturbing viral video showing a young woman giving what appears to be alcoholic bitters to a few-month-old baby.

The video, posted by social media influencer @ChuksEricE, has triggered widespread condemnation and concern over the safety of the child involved. In the footage, the woman is seen biting open a sachet suspected to be Triple Action Bitters, drinking from it, and then offering it to the infant.

Reacting to the footage, the police described the act as “illegal and dangerous,” stressing that exposing children to alcohol violates Nigeria’s child protection laws and endangers their mental and physical wellbeing.

“We are aware of this distressing video and are investigating urgently. Exposing a child to alcohol is illegal and dangerous,” the police said in a statement on Monday.

The authorities have appealed to the public for credible information that could lead to the woman’s identification and arrest. Citizens with relevant leads are urged to contact the police via 09169967000.

“We urge @ChuksEricE and any member of the public with valuable information that could lead to the swift apprehension of this ‘mother’ to not hesitate to provide same. The child’s safety is our priority,” the statement added.

The footage has sparked a firestorm of anger on social media. One user, @ibukun_tayo, wrote: “Some people are not supposed to be allowed to have kids,” capturing the widespread sentiment of disbelief and outrage.

Others have questioned whether the incident was staged for online attention, while many are calling for swift legal action to protect the child and punish those responsible.

The identity and whereabouts of the woman remain unknown at the time of this report, but police say they are working with urgency to ensure the child’s safety and bring the perpetrator to justice.
