ADEOLA OGUNLADE

The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has assured residents of Emina Crescent that construction and rehabilitation of the 567-metre road will commence within two weeks, subject to the completion of due process.

Dauda gave the assurance yesterday, during the official opening of bids for the project at the council secretariat.

He said the project was proposed by residents during community engagement ahead of the preparation of the 2026 budget, noting that the road would improve accessibility and ease traffic movement because of its connection to adjoining streets.

The chairman said the project falls under the Infrastructure and Urban Renewal pillar of the I.K.E.J.A Agenda, adding that the council would closely monitor the construction to ensure quality materials and durable delivery.

“We are going to monitor the project day in, day out to ensure that we deliver a quality road for our people,” he said.

He also urged residents to take ownership of the road and support its maintenance after completion.

The bid-opening exercise was attended by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abisola Omisore; the Secretary to the Local Government, Prince Adeyinka Illo; the former Council Manager, Mrs. Odubeko Juliana Taiwo; representatives of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency; participating contractors; and other stakeholders.

The Head of the Procurement Unit, Mr. Mumuney Olalekan, said the invitation for bids was published in The Nation newspaper to attract qualified contractors.

A representative of the Director-General of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Mrs. Funmi Adelaja, commended the council for conducting the exercise openly, while the Council Manager explained the procedures guiding the process.

Members of the Emina Crescent community, led by the Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairperson, Alhaja Taibat Adefolami, were also present.

The successful contractor will be determined after the prescribed bid evaluation process is completed.
