Court grants El-Rufai N200m bail, adjourns related case

A High Court has granted former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, bail in the sum of N200 million, with conditions attached.

The court, in its ruling, held that the defendant must provide sureties who meet specified requirements, including verifiable addresses and evidence of financial capacity.

El-Rufai is facing charges in connection with a case filed against him, the details of which were presented during proceedings.

Counsel to the defendant had earlier urged the court to grant bail on liberal terms, arguing that his client is a well-known public figure who is not a flight risk and would be available for trial.

However, the prosecution opposed the application, raising concerns over the nature of the charges and urging the court to impose strict conditions if bail was to be granted.

In its decision, the court granted bail but emphasised that the conditions must be fully met before the defendant can be released.

Meanwhile, the court adjourned ruling in a related matter to a later date.

The case has been fixed for further hearing.
