Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has restrained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership from dissolving its State Executive Committee in Cross River State.
The suit was filed by the 34-member State Executive Committee, led by Barrister Venatius Ikem, challenging the party and its national chairman, Umar Damagun, as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), over attempts to dissolve the committee following the party’s state congress.
In her ruling, Justice Abdulmalik ordered all parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the matter on its merits.
“All the concerned parties listed in this application SHALL maintain STATUS QUO in respect of the matter in issue pending the hearing and determination on its merit of the Motion on Notice with Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1973/2025 filed on September 23, 2025,” the judge held.
She further directed the plaintiffs to serve all relevant court documents on the defendants immediately to prevent any pre-emptive action.
The plaintiffs, in a motion dated September 19, 2025, sought an injunction restraining the PDP leadership and INEC from dissolving the State Executive Committee or suspending its members, arguing that such actions would truncate their term in office.
The court adjourned the case for hearing to October 30, 2025.
