A 45-year-old man, Daniel Chukwudi, has been remanded at the Nigeria Correctional Service Centre in Afara, Umuahia, on allegations of rape and threat to life.
Chukwudi was arraigned before the Umuahia North Magistrate Court on Wednesday, following allegations that he sexually assaulted the woman at Ohokobe, Ndume Ibeku, in Umuahia North on October 5,l.
According to the charge, the defendant allegedly had sexual intercourse with the woman without her consent and threatened to kill her with a machete if she refused his advances.
The victim reportedly said Chukwudi called her and told her that a friend of hers who lives in Ghana had returned and wanted to see her.
Believing him, she went to meet him, but he allegedly forced himself on her and took her phone, ATM card and money.
The incident reportedly came to light after the woman raised an alarm, attracting the attention of people nearby.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution counsel informed the court that similar charges were pending against Chukwudi before another magistrate court..
A youth leader in the community also alleged that Chukwudi had repeatedly used phone calls to lure women to his house.
The court subsequently ordered his remand at the Nigeria Correctional Service Centre in Afara, Umuahia and the matter was adjourned until December 17.
