Adamawa State which was known only for having some residents who consume illicit drug and banned substances, is now also home to some growers of such banned substances.
The state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, made the disclosure on Friday, stating that operatives have destroyed three farms in which cannabis was being grown.
In his speech in Yola during a ceremony marking the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the state commander of the NDLEA, Aliyu Abubakar said the agency uncovered one and a half hectare farm of cannabis in Mayo Belwa, one hectare each of the same substance in Mubi South and Mubi North LGAs respectively as the farms that his officers found and destroyed.
The NDLEA commander listed other achievements of his command between June 2025 and now, including arrest of 583 drug suspects and conviction of 270 of them.
He also announced the seizure by his command of five tonnes of substances that comprise tramadoz, diazepam, codeine, and methamphetamine, infamously called ‘ice’.
Both the NDLEA commander and the guest speaker on the ocassion, Dr Stephen John, stressed the unfortunate role that drug plays in crime, explaining that nobody goes out to rob, or kidnap or attack anyone else without first getting high on drug.
The guest speaker warned that criminals are increasingly using superior methods and weapons and governments also need to up their game if they are to save the country from criminals
