Dabiri-Erewa Congratulates Nigerian-Americans on US Midterm Election Victories

NiDCOM chair describes electoral successes as evidence of growing diaspora participation in public leadership

The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Nigerian-Americans who recorded electoral victories in the November 3, 2026, United States midterm elections.

Dabiri-Erewa described their reported successes as a reflection of the growing participation and influence of Nigerians in the diaspora in public leadership and governance.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, November 4, she commended the candidates for their commitment to public service and wished them successful and impactful tenures.

Among the notable names listed by NiDCOM were Will Jawando, elected Montgomery County Executive in Maryland; Oye Owolewa, who secured an at-large seat on the District of Columbia Council; and Junior Ezeonu, elected to represent District 101 in the Texas House of Representatives.

Others named in the statement included Olaleye Onikuyide of Connecticut, Ukeme Jeter of Ohio, Odus Evbagharha of Texas and Carol Kazeem, who retained her seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

The list also included Gabe Okoye, Phil Olaleye and Solomon Adesanya in Georgia, as well as Segun Adeyina, who contested for District 110 in the state’s House of Representatives.

Esther Agbaje was also listed following her reported re-election to the Minnesota House of Representatives, alongside Justin Onwenu of Michigan and Janelle Anyanonu of New Mexico.

NiDCOM further disclosed that the outcome of the contest involving KC Ohaebosim, a 10-year member of the Kansas State Legislature who is seeking election as Lieutenant Governor, was still being awaited.

Dabiri-Erewa praised the candidates for representing Nigerians in the United States political space and urged them to use their positions to make meaningful contributions to their respective communities.

The reported victories have drawn attention to the participation of Nigerians and people of Nigerian descent in American politics, spanning local government and state legislative positions.

However, independent reports available on Wednesday had confirmed four Nigerian-American victories, while some other contests, including Segun Adeyina’s Georgia race, were still awaiting final results or confirmation.
