Dauda Lawal Flags Off Strategic Road Projects Across Four Zamfara LGAs

Zamfara State Governor, Dr Dauda Lawal, has flagged off the construction and reconstruction of strategic road projects spanning four local government areas, as part of efforts to improve transportation, boost economic activities and enhance access to essential services across the state.

The projects cover Gusau, Bungudu, Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji Local Government Areas, with the state government describing the interventions as part of its ongoing efforts to rebuild critical infrastructure under the administration’s Rescue Mission agenda.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the projects include the Tashar Abu–Kekun Waje–Bingi Road in Bungudu Local Government Area, the Kwatarkwashi–Mada Road and the 53-kilometre Gusau–Jauri–Dogon Kade–Dan Isah–Nasarawa Mailayi–Nasarawa Godel Road.

The Tashar Abu–Kekun Waje–Bingi Road project will involve comprehensive reconstruction, including earthworks, pavement construction, drainage facilities and erosion control. It is expected to be completed within 18 months.

Similarly, the reconstruction of the Kwatarkwashi–Mada Road has been awarded to Zhongcheng Construction Nigeria Limited, with a contractual completion period of 12 months.

The third project, covering approximately 53 kilometres from Gusau through Jauri, Dogon Kade and Nasarawa Mailayi to Nasarawa Godel, has been awarded to CCECC Nigeria Limited and is expected to be completed within 18 months.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony for the final phase of the Gusau–Nasarawa Godel Road, Governor Lawal described the projects as important milestones in his administration’s efforts to rebuild the state’s infrastructure, restore public confidence, improve security and create greater economic opportunities.

He stressed that functional road infrastructure remained essential to economic growth, security, social development and the overall well-being of residents.

Providing details of the 53-kilometre road project, the governor explained that the construction would cover four local government areas, with Gusau receiving five kilometres, Bungudu 12 kilometres, Kaura Namoda nine kilometres and Birnin Magaji 27 kilometres.

According to him, the project will involve extensive earthworks, the construction of culverts of different sizes, reinforced concrete-lined drains, erosion control measures and other associated engineering works.

He added that three bridges, comprising three-span, two-span and 10-span structures, would also be constructed along the corridor to guarantee safer and more reliable transportation.

Lawal said the completed road network would connect several communities to their respective local government headquarters and Gusau, the state capital, thereby reducing transportation difficulties, cutting travel costs and journey times, and improving access to markets, schools, healthcare facilities and other essential services.

The governor further noted that improved road connectivity would particularly benefit farmers by making it easier and cheaper to transport agricultural produce from rural communities to major markets.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, saying the projects formed part of broader efforts to improve living conditions, strengthen economic activities and extend the benefits of development to communities across Zamfara State.
