Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu wins House of Reps ticket for 3rd tenure

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has won the All Progressives Congress, APC, ticket to contest for the Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State in the 2027 election.

Kalu, who was elected in 2019 and 2023, emerged as the APC candidate on Saturday unopposed.

He was elected by delegates from the 13 political wards of Bende Federal Constituency.

The election, which commenced late in the afternoon, was monitored by the APC electoral panel chairman for Abia, Erasmus Cishak, and was relatively peaceful in parts of the state visited by DAILY POST.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday evening at the APC office after his victory, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, promised to consolidate on his achievements in Bende if re-elected.

Kalu, who said the strength of his opponents would not be underrated, however stated that the people of Bende Federal Constituency would not make the mistake of failing to return a ranking officer to the National Assembly.

He further said that the National Assembly would continue to work with the President Bola Tinubu-led executive for the progress of the nation.

Speaking on the APC primary, the chairman of the APC House of Representatives electoral panel for Abia, Erasmus Cishak, commended Abia aspirants and their supporters for their peaceful conduct.

He expressed satisfaction that the aspirants and their supporters worked in the interest of the APC.
