Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other opposition politicians of trying to rewrite the history of the fuel subsidy debate in Nigeria.
Sowore made the accusation in a post on X, claiming that the AAC was the only political party that clearly opposed the removal of fuel subsidy at the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt.
He said the position taken by his party at the conference caused the Bola Tinubu administration to react, while accusing Atiku of changing his position afterwards to catch up politically.
Sowore said, “Don’t let Atiku Abubakar and his clowning group deceive you about fuel subsidy or pretend that they are responsible for the panic now gripping the failed Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu regime.”
He added, “It was our firm and uncompromising stance at the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt that sent the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu regime scampering.”
According to Sowore, “Only the African Action Congress (AAC) made its position absolutely clear that we will not remove fuel subsidy In fact, by the time we returned from Port Harcourt, Atiku had already changed his position and was scrambling to catch up.”
He further accused established politicians of changing their positions based on political interests and foreign influence.
“We have been consistent on this issue while these establishment politicians keep shifting positions according to political convenience and foreign capitalist control. They should not be allowed to rewrite history or suddenly present themselves as the opposition. Don’t let Atiku deceive you about fuel subsidy,” Sowore warned.
