Ebonyi 2027: Ezza leaders rally support for PDP candidate Odii

A newly formed socio-political group, the Royal Front of Ezza Ezekuna, also known as Ezza Frontliners, has endorsed the governorship ambition of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ebonyi State.

The group said Odii, popularly known as “Anyichuks,” possesses the leadership qualities and track record needed to transform the state, urging Ezza people across the world to unite behind his aspiration.

The endorsement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the group’s convener, Ambassador Paschal Oluchukwu, following its inaugural meeting in Enugu.

According to the statement, the meeting brought together prominent sons and daughters of Ezza Ezekuna, who resolved to mobilise support for the PDP candidate across the state.

Oluchukwu said Odii had distinguished himself through philanthropy, youth empowerment and educational support long before seeking elective office.

“Governance is not trial by error. Leadership should be entrusted to someone with proven accomplishments. Across Ebonyi State, Dr Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii has built houses for widows, awarded scholarships to students and empowered thousands of youths to establish businesses,” he said.

Also speaking, an elder statesman and PDP chieftain, Chief Christopher Ngwuta, urged Ezza people not to rely on assurances that the governorship would be ceded to the Ezza nation in 2031.

According to him, such promises lack credibility and should not influence the political decisions of the people.

“They cannot make those promises publicly because they know they cannot be held accountable. Our people must be wise and support Anyichuks because he is the only one with the capacity to ensure that an Ezza person eventually occupies the governorship seat,” Ngwuta said.

He argued that despite being the largest ethnic group in Ebonyi State, the Ezza nation had yet to produce a governor since the state’s creation and should therefore make political choices based on strategic interests.

A former member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and PDP stakeholder, Hon. Ikechukwu Nwobo, also called on residents to prioritise competence over zoning in the 2027 election.

He alleged that the state had witnessed declining governance and urged voters to support a candidate capable of reversing the trend.

“Ebonyi people cannot afford another four years of poor governance if the current situation continues,” he said.

The group pledged to expand its membership and mobilise support for Odii in Ezza communities across the state and beyond to ensure his victory in the 2027 governorship election.
