Stakeholders in Nigeria’s education sector will converge in Abuja on Wednesday for the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria, ECAN, 2026 Education Summit to review the reforms, achievements and challenges recorded under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The summit, scheduled to hold at Barcelona Hotel, Wuse II, Abuja, is themed: “Three Years of the Tinubu Administration: Assessing Reforms, Progress, and Challenges in Nigeria’s Education Sector.”
It is expected to provide a platform for critical policy conversations on the future of education in the country.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, will declare the summit open and lead discussions on the Federal Government’s education reform agenda, highlighting key milestones, ongoing initiatives and the challenges that still require urgent attention.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Chairman of ECAN, Mr. Chux Ukwuatu, the event will bring together policymakers, heads of education agencies, academics, development partners, school administrators, researchers, civil society organisations, student representatives and media practitioners to evaluate the impact of government policies and chart a sustainable path for the sector.
Ukwuatu said the summit would encourage constructive dialogue among stakeholders while promoting collaboration on practical solutions to improve access, quality and governance across all levels of education.
Beyond the policy discussions, the event will also recognise individuals and institutions whose leadership and contributions have significantly advanced educational development and human capital growth in Nigeria.
Among those billed to receive awards are the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa; the Executive Secretary of the , Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu; the Executive Secretary of the , Arc. Sonny Echono; the Registrar of the , Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi; and the Registrar of the , Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, among other distinguished personalities.
ECAN said the honours are in recognition of the recipients’ visionary leadership, outstanding service and enduring commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education system and driving national development through investment in human capital.
