EFCC Arraigns Firm, Director Over Alleged N582.43M Money Laundering

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON) Plc and its director, Zavyalov Dmitry, over alleged money laundering offences involving N582.43M.

The company was arraigned on Monday before Justice O.A. Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja on a six-count amended charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/644/2025. Dmitry was said to be at large.

According to the charge, ALSCON, a Designated Non-Financial Business and Profession (DNFBP), and its director allegedly failed to report certain transfers from the company’s account to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML) between March and July 2024, as required under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

The transactions included N147.52M, N156.03m, N121.43M and N127.34M paid to Udatson Nigeria in March, April, May and July 2024, respectively.

Other transfers listed in the charge were N15.12m paid to Urico Global Services in April 2024 and N15M paid to Christopher Azogu in June 2024.

The first count alleged that the defendants failed to report a single transfer of N147.52M paid to Udatson Nigeria from an account operated by ALSCON in March 2024.

The charge stated that the alleged offence contravened Section 11(1)(b) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and was punishable under Sections 11(3), 19(2)(b) and 22 of the same Act.

When the charges were read, ALSCON’s Acting Managing Director, Ime Monday Inyang, pleaded not guilty on behalf of the company to all six counts.

The company’s counsel also asked the court to quash the charges, arguing that ALSCON was innocent of the allegations.

EFCC lead counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, told the court that the alleged offences were punishable under the provisions cited in the charge.

Justice Egwuatu adjourned the case until January 27, 2027, for the commencement of trial.

The allegations have yet to be established in court.
