The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.
The Commission announced this in a notice published on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, featuring Maina’s photograph and asking members of the public with information about his whereabouts to contact the EFCC or other security agencies.
The EFCC identified Maina as a 61-year-old indigene of Biu, Borno State.
The Commission did not provide further details of the alleged stolen property in the wanted notice.
Maina, a former senior civil servant, became chairman of the PRTT, which was established to address problems in Nigeria’s pension system.
His tenure became controversial after he was accused of involvement in a pension-related financial crime and was declared wanted by the EFCC in 2017.
He was later arrested in Niger Republic and extradited to Nigeria to face trial.
In November 2021, Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja convicted Maina on money laundering charges involving about N2bn and sentenced him to eight years in prison.
The court also ordered the forfeiture of assets linked to the offences.
Maina was released from prison in February 2025 after serving part of his sentence, with the Nigerian Correctional Service attributing his release to good conduct and statutory remission.
The latest wanted notice is separate from the money laundering conviction for which Maina served his prison term.
The EFCC has now appealed to anyone with information that could lead to his whereabouts to report to the Commission or the nearest police station and other security agencies.
Maina has previously denied wrongdoing in the cases against him and has disputed aspects of the prosecution’s case.
