Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has received 13-year-old International STEM Olympiad champion, Chimdiebube Onwubiko, following the student’s outstanding performance at the global competition in Rome, Italy.

Mbah disclosed this in a statement shared via his X handle on Tuesday, July 21, after hosting the young scholar at the Lion Building, the Enugu State Government House.

The governor congratulated Chimdiebube for winning a gold medal in Mathematics and a silver medal in Science, describing the feat as a proud moment for the state.

“Yesterday, I welcomed Chimdiebube Onwubiko, our brilliant 13 year old International STEM Olympiad champion, to the Lion Building after his remarkable performance in Rome, where he emerged with a Gold Medal in Mathematics and a Silver Medal in Science,” Mbah wrote.

He said the student’s achievement reflected the values of discipline, hard work and quality education, adding that it demonstrated the ability of Enugu’s young people to excel on the global stage.

“Chimdiebube’s achievement is a proud moment for Enugu and a reflection of the power of discipline, dedication, and quality education,” the governor said.

Mbah also commended Chimdiebube’s Mathematics teacher, Chisom Unachukwu, and Evergreen Schools for nurturing the student’s talent and maintaining high educational standards.

“I commend him, his Mathematics teacher, Chisom Unachukwu, and Evergreen Schools for their commitment to excellence and for proving that Enugu’s young talents can compete and excel on the global stage,” he added.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving education through the Smart Green Schools initiative, saying the programme is designed to help children across the state realise their full potential.

“As we continue to transform education through the Smart Green Schools initiative, we remain committed to creating opportunities for every child in Enugu to discover their potential and become champions in their chosen fields,” Mbah stated.
