Parents of some prospective admission seekers to Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, weekend, expressed concerns over the non-release of the full merit lists of the 2026/2027 admission of the university. According to those who spoke with THE WHISTLER in Enugu, the development has unsettled them.

They said their fear is heightened when the university began to sell admission supplementary forms without first admitting prospective admission seekers who scored above the cut-off marks of various departments of the university.

Aniebo Ogbuka hails from Mpu in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State. He said he had been having sleepless nights following the development.

In his words, “My son scored 314, and applied to study nursing sciences at Unizik. When JAMB released his result, we were happy. In fact, I celebrated it. We then waited until Unizik released its cut-off. It is 300. I had expected that my son will be admitted automatically. I say so because I have other children at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Once one scales through the cut-off, one is admitted. But Unizik rather published some names, and then kept others pending. The admission status of my son is that he has been recommended for admission to JAMB. He has no deficiencies. Since then, we have been apprehensive, especially when many other students have the same fate.”

Mrs Monica Ugwu resides at Golf Estate, Enugu. She said she had wanted her daughter to study at UNN, but she chose Unizik. “She scored above the cut-off mark of her choice course,” Ugwu said. “But she has not been offered admission. We have been checking online. Unizik suddenly began to sell supplementary forms, including for courses with yet-to-be admitted merit students. My daughter fell into this category. She should have been resting if she put UNN as her first choice. We are not sure if Unizik will admit her. The form is N100, 000. We don’t know if we are to buy it or not. That is our dilemma.”
Checks by our correspondent show that the admissions office of Unizik has begun sales of supplementary forms for its 126 programmes.
A release from its Public Relations Office, entitled “UNIZIK commences online supplementary admission application”, stated that the sale commenced on September 16 and will end on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The university also published an advert signed by its Registrar, Dr Chinenye Okeke, to that effect.
A worker at the admissions office of the university, who refused to be mentioned, said the office has been overwhelmed with inquiries on admission. “People bring the same complaints of a prolonged recommended admission status. We have a new VC, and we are at loss also. It is precarious because if those who ought to have been admitted fail to buy the supplementary form before 27th September, and their admission remains on the ‘recommended’ status, they might lose the admission.”

There was no official response from the Admissions Office of the university on the matter as the man in charge was said to be absent when the clarification was made by our reporter.
