A light-hearted moment between former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and veteran entertainer Charly Boy has captured attention online after the duo were seen exchanging jokes at a high-profile birthday celebration.
The video, which surfaced on X on September 14, 2026, was recorded during the 70th birthday celebration of Chief (Dr.) Chidi Anyaegbu, founder and chairman of Chisco Group.
Anyaegbu, who clocked 70 on September 13, 2026, is recognised for his contributions to Nigeria’s transport and logistics industry. His birthday celebration also featured philanthropic gestures, including the presentation of buses to support court transportation at a Lagos custodial centre.
In the viral clip, Obasanjo was dressed in traditional blue attire and held a microphone as he interacted with guests. Charly Boy, meanwhile, stood close by in his trademark black cowboy hat and maroon outfit.
With a large birthday backdrop displaying Anyaegbu’s portrait behind them, Obasanjo called out to the entertainer, asking:
“Charly Boy, where are you?”
Charly Boy then jokingly complained about his wife being denied entry, saying:
“They didn’t let my wife come in. I want to carry a placard.”
Obasanjo, however, appeared to take the complaint seriously and instructed him to resolve the matter immediately.
“They didn’t let your wife come in? Go and tell her to come in.”
When Charly Boy continued with his protest, Obasanjo firmly added:
“Go and tell your wife to come in. Stop arguing. I am in charge.”
The response sent those around them into laughter, while the moment also generated reactions online. Some viewers particularly found Obasanjo’s declaration amusing, with many pointing to the former military ruler’s authoritative tone.
The relationship between Obasanjo and Charly Boy also has a long-standing connection through Charly Boy’s late father, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa.
Over the years, their occasional public interactions have continued to attract attention, largely because of the striking contrast between Obasanjo’s commanding personality and Charly Boy’s unconventional and flamboyant character.
