Fake Doctor Dupes Woman Of N500,000 In UCTH Job Scam

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 39-year-old man, Udeme Emmanuel Ekpeme, for allegedly posing as a medical doctor and collecting N500,000 from a woman with a promise to secure jobs for her children at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, said officers attached to the Uwanse Division arrested the suspect after a 45-year-old woman, Mrs Edemawan Samuel, reported the alleged fraud.

According to the police, Ekpeme presented himself as a medical doctor and convinced the woman to part with N500,000, claiming he could facilitate employment for her children at UCTH.

Akata said officers recovered items believed to be linked to the alleged fraud, while the suspect remains in custody.

He added that the Commissioner of Police had ordered a thorough investigation to establish the full extent of the suspect’s activities and identify any other victims or accomplices.

The police said the suspect would be charged in court if investigations establish sufficient evidence.
