The media aide to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, Muyiwa Adekeye, has raised concern over the alleged worsening eye condition of his principal while in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.
Adekeye accused the anti-corruption agency of failing to provide El-Rufai with adequate medical care despite repeated complaints about swollen, red and itchy eyes.
In a statement issued on Friday, Adekeye said El-Rufai had requested medical attention after experiencing discomfort, adding that family members who visited him also noticed the condition and alerted ICPC officials.
According to him, two ICPC officials examined El-Rufai’s eyes but no further medical action was allegedly taken.
Adekeye further claimed that an official identified as Henry told a family member that the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory did not want to see a doctor, a claim the family reportedly rejected as false and unreasonable.
He said El-Rufai had previously been taken to an eye clinic on June 4, but his condition allegedly worsened overnight.
Adekeye also stated that El-Rufai’s legal team had secured a court order granting him access to his doctors and medical treatment due to recurring eye-related concerns while in custody.
He called on the ICPC to obey the court order, respect the rights of detainees and allow the former governor access to proper medical care.
