The Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, has invited leaders of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos State for clarification on issues relating to the Eze chieftaincy title.
http://pmexpressng.com gathered that the invitation was extended to the Board of Trustees Chairman, Dr Jonathan Nnaji, the President General, Chief Sunday Udeh, and other senior members of the community.
Both Dr Nnaji and Chief Udeh confirmed the development to http://pmexpressng.com on Thursday. They stated that letters requesting their presence at FCID Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, were received.
A copy of the invitation letter dated 18th June, 2026, with reference number CR: 3000/X/ADM ANNEX/SEB/TM.H/VOL.16/52, was sighted by http://pmexpressng.com during reporting.
According to the letter, the FCID Annex, Lagos is conducting an inquiry and requires clarification from the invited persons to advance the matter.
The leaders have been asked to report at the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi-Lagos, on Tuesday, 23rd June, 2026 at 10:00am.
On arrival, the invitees are to meet with the Officer-in-Charge, Team “H”, Special Enquiry Bureau, SEB, who will attend to them, according to details in the correspondence.
The letter described the exercise as a fact-finding invitation. It stated that the action is in line with investigative powers granted to the Nigeria Police Force under Section 214 of the 1999 Constitution and Section 4(a) of the Police Act, 2020.
Sources within the Igbo Speaking Community told http://pmexpressng.com that the matter may be connected to ongoing discussions about the use of the “Eze Ndigbo” title in Lagos State.
Community sources said the discussion involves recent proposals by some stakeholders to replace the “Eze Ndigbo” title with “Onyendu”. A committee led by Chief Charles Odunukwe and Prince Ubochi C. Ubochi is reportedly championing the proposal.
The sources added that the Igbo Speaking Community leadership is regarded as a key stakeholder in conversations involving traditional institutions and Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide on the title issue.
The invitation letter also contained a standard confidentiality notice regarding disclosure of information contained in the document, in line with official communication procedures.
The debate around traditional titles for Igbo people residing outside Igboland has generated discussions among community leaders in Lagos over the years, with calls for dialogue and unity.
As at the time of filing this report, http://pmexpressng.com was awaiting official comment from the Police Public Relations Officer FCID Annex, Alagbon, on the purpose of the meeting.
Dr Nnaji and Chief Udeh told http://pmexpressng.com that they would honour the invitation on the scheduled date.
