Suspected terrorists on Wednesday evening invaded the Ijalu area of Egbe in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, abducting a woman and her toddler in an attack that has heightened fear among residents.
The victims were identified as Mrs. Idowu Kemi Titilayo and her young child, who were reportedly whisked away by the armed assailants during the raid along the Solid Rock School axis of the community.
According to local sources, the attackers stormed the area at dusk, firing sporadically into the air and causing panic as residents fled for safety. The gunmen reportedly operated for several minutes before escaping with the victims.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to security concerns, said the attackers appeared heavily armed and met no resistance during the operation.
> “The terrorists came suddenly and everyone started running. They were heavily armed, and people could not confront them. They abducted Mrs. Kemi and her little child and disappeared into the surrounding area before help could arrive,” the source said.
The incident has sparked fresh concerns over the worsening security situation in the area, with residents lamenting the increasing frequency of violent attacks and kidnappings.
Another community member described the atmosphere as tense, urging security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and restore confidence among residents.
> “This incident has created serious tension in the community. People are afraid because these attacks are becoming too frequent. We are appealing to security agencies to act quickly and rescue the woman and her child,” the resident said.
The latest abduction adds to growing concerns over kidnappings and violent attacks across parts of Nigeria’s North-Central region, where communities continue to grapple with security challenges.
