FG begins payment of withheld allowances to Nigerian students abroad

The Federal Government has begiun the disbursement of delayed 2025 allowances for diaspora Nigerian students under the Bilateral Education Agreement BEA, programme.

The update was contained in a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Education on May 19, 2026.

The ministry anniunced that the Central Bank of Nigeria, has transferred approved funds to Nigerian embassies and foreign missions for onward payment to beneficiaries across partner countries.

Minister of Education Maruf Tunji Alausa, disclosed that the amount released covers half of the outstanding obligations approved for 2025, adding that arrangements are being made for the payment of the remaining balance.

The ministry explained that the funds have already reached the accounts of the affected embassies, with beneficiaries expected to begin receiving payments through the various missions.

“No Nigerian student pursuing academic excellence under government scholarship schemes will be left unsupported,” the statement read.
