FG Declares May 1 Public Holiday to Mark Workers’ Day 2026

The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, as a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo praised Nigerian workers for their commitment, diligence, and contribution to national development.

According to the statement, “The Federal Government has declared Friday, 1st May 2026, a public holiday to celebrate this year’s International Workers’ Day.

“The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government. He congratulated workers across the country on the occasion.

“The Minister commended Nigerian workers for their hard work and dedication to national development, noting that their efforts remain vital to the nation’s growth and prosperity.”
