A fire outbreak at the Justrite Superstores branch on Akowonjo Road, in the Egbeda/Alimosho area of Lagos State, has destroyed goods and properties.
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) were deployed to the scene on Thursday to battle the inferno and prevent it from spreading to adjoining buildings.
According to videos on social media, the fire affected the upper floor of the supermarket, with thick smoke seen billowing from the building as firefighters worked to contain the situation.

In a statement shared on its official X handle on Thursday, Justrite Superstores confirmed that the fire had been completely extinguished, adding that the situation had been brought under control.
“Following the fire incident at our Akowonjo branch, we are pleased to confirm that the fire has been completely extinguished and the situation has been fully contained,” the company stated.
Justrite credited the quick intervention of emergency responders and the cooperation of relevant stakeholders for bringing the incident under control.
“Thanks to the prompt response of the emergency services and coordinated efforts of all relevant stakeholders, the incident was brought under control swiftly and effectively,” the company added.
The supermarket assured customers, employees and residents of its commitment to safety, while appreciating the public for their support and understanding.
“We remain committed to the safety of our customers, employees, and host community, and we appreciate the continued support and understanding of the public,” Justrite said.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are yet to be officially disclosed.
