The Federal Fire Service says it saved property estimated at N20 million after a fire broke out at the staff quarters of the Gombe Media Corporation on Saturday.
The fire, which occurred on September 19, affected a residential building within the corporation’s staff quarters in Gombe.
The FFS said its Gombe State Command received a distress call about the incident at 4:06pm and deployed a 215 Multipurpose Water Tender from its ATM Fire Operation Base.
According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASF Muazu-Bashir Musa, the fire crew left the base at 4:10pm and arrived at the scene at 4:25pm.
The firefighters immediately commenced efforts to contain the blaze and prevented it from spreading to adjoining parts of the premises.
“The fire involved a residential building within the staff quarters and was suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault,” the statement said.
The command estimated the value of property destroyed at about N6 million, while assets worth approximately N20 million were salvaged.
No casualty was recorded in the incident.
The operation was led by DSF Ali Kidams, with IF Adamu Babayo as the driver, supported by other firefighters.
Personnel from the FFS 256 Mega Park Fire Station, the Gombe State Fire Service and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps also participated in the operation.
After the fire was brought under control, firefighters inspected the premises to ensure there was no remaining threat before leaving the scene at 5:28pm.
The FFS credited the quick response to the prompt distress call, saying the early alert helped the crew contain the fire before it could cause further damage.
The command urged residents to report fire outbreaks without delay and remain vigilant.
It also advised the public to have electrical installations regularly inspected and maintained by qualified professionals to reduce the risk of fire incidents.
