An Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City has sentenced four persons to death by hanging for offences bordering on kidnapping and membership of a secret cult.
The convicts three men and a woman — were sentenced on Tuesday by Justice T.A. Momodu after the court delivered judgment on an 11-count charge filed against them.
Those sentenced to death are Marvelous Isaac, 32; Wisdom Michael, 36; Rufus Michael, 30; and Gift Raphael, 27.
The judgment lasted for more than three hours as the court considered the various counts against the four convicts.
The offences for which they were convicted included kidnapping and membership of a secret cult.
Justice Momodu subsequently handed down the death sentence by hanging against the four convicts.
The case was prosecuted before the Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City, which has been handling cases involving kidnapping, cultism and other violent crimes.
