Popular cleric and leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has urged the Nigerian government to release IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, arguing that fairness and justice should apply equally to all individuals accused of controversial statements or actions.
Speaking on the issue, Ayodele questioned why Kanu remains incarcerated while Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi continues to enjoy his freedom despite making remarks that have generated public debate.
“The Nigerian government should release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Since you keep Kanu in prison, why can’t you keep Sheikh Gumi in prison too?” Ayodele said.
The cleric’s remarks have reignited discussions over Kanu’s continued detention and the government’s handling of security-related cases involving high-profile figures. Ayodele maintained that the authorities should adopt a balanced approach in dealing with individuals whose comments or activities have attracted national attention.
