The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has announced that the party’s internal crisis has been resolved after consultations involving key stakeholders, including the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and economist Prof. Pat Utomi.
Dickson made this known in a post on his X handle on Friday, stating that the resolution was reached during a meeting of party leaders convened to address concerns arising from the conduct of the party’s primaries.
The NDC has been grappling with internal disagreements following the conclusion of its primary elections.
The party had earlier faced allegations of irregularities in the exercise, with Dickson admitting during an interview that the primaries were not without flaws.
On Thursday, he appealed to party members to remain patient as the party navigates challenges associated with its rapid expansion.
The crisis deepened earlier this week when former Kano State Governor and Obi’s running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, accused the party of replacing the names of his supporters and associates who emerged victorious during the primaries in Kano State.
There were also unconfirmed reports that Kwankwaso threatened to leave the NDC after candidates linked to the Kwankwasiyya Movement were allegedly substituted as part of a reported 60/40 power-sharing arrangement favouring his bloc.
However, in his latest statement on Friday, Dickson disclosed that all issues stemming from the primaries were resolved during a meeting that lasted about three hours.
“In the course of that meeting, we reviewed the activities of our party and discussed a few recent issues that have been a source of concern to all sides, and we amicably resolved all the issues,” he said.
“We have always been on the same page on the bigger picture, which is winning the elections for all candidates of our party and rescuing Nigeria from the misgovernance of the APC-led government. However, a few issues have arisen, and we have agreed on how to handle them moving forward,” Dickson added.
He urged party members to put an end to internal disputes and focus on the party’s broader objectives.
“Both Peter Obi and I, as well as other leaders and stakeholders of our party, will continue to consult and engage with one another to address and resolve concerns, strengthen the unity and cohesion of our party, and ensure that we remain focused on our shared mission of rescuing Nigeria and building a better future for all,” he said.
