The Federal Road Safety Corps has commenced a three-day special patrol along the Abuja-Kaduna highway to tackle traffic violations blamed for road crashes and loss of lives.
The operation, code-named “Operation Whirlwind”, began on Monday and will run until September 17, with enforcement activities starting daily from 6am.
The Kaduna Sector Command said the exercise would target major traffic offences, particularly speeding, overloading and route violations.
In a statement issued in Kaduna, the FRSC Staff Officer, Public Education, Route Commander Usman Garba, said the operation was designed to address persistent violations that increase the risk of crashes along the busy corridor.
The exercise involves personnel from the FRSC Kaduna Sector Command, Kakau Unit Command, Nigeria Police Force and Nigerian Army.
Garba said enforcement officers would strictly apply existing traffic regulations during the operation, while a mobile court would be deployed to ensure swift prosecution of offenders.
The Kaduna Sector Commander, CC Andrew Longkam, urged motorists travelling between Abuja and Kaduna to obey traffic rules and cooperate with officers deployed along the route.
He particularly warned drivers against excessive speed and overloading, while advising them to remain within designated routes.
Longkam said motorists should drive responsibly and support the enforcement exercise, stressing that the primary objective was to prevent avoidable crashes and protect lives.
The FRSC said it would continue to combine enforcement with public education and collaboration with other security and traffic management agencies to improve road safety along the corridor.
