The management of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), has confirmed the safe release of two female students who were abducted during the killing of a Polaris Bank branch manager, Mr Ossy, on Sunday.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Orakwe Ezugwu, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Friday.
Ezugwu said the students were currently receiving medical care and psychological support at the University Medical Centre.
He added that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ikechukwu Dozie, had visited the students and interacted with them following their release.
The management also commended the Nigerian Police and other security agencies for their intervention, while assuring members of the university community that additional security measures were being sustained in collaboration with relevant agencies.
The statement reads, “The Management of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, has confirmed the safe release of the two female students who were abducted during the gruesome killing of a branch bank manager, Mr Ossy, last Sunday.
“The management assures students, staff, parents, and the University community that additional security measures are being sustained in collaboration with relevant security agencies.
“Members of the University community are urged to remain calm and vigilant, and report any suspicious activity.”
Recall that the Owerri-based branch manager of Polaris Bank was gunned down by gunmen on Sunday within the university campus when he reportedly resisted an attempt to abduct him.
The bank manager had gone to the university to drop off his children when the incident occurred.
