“Ghanaian Artists Struggle To Get Investors, Nigerian Musicians Enjoy Billionaires Support “- Sarkodie

Popular Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has highlighted the difference in financial support available to Nigerian and Ghanaian musicians, saying Nigerian artists benefit from greater investment from wealthy individuals and business executives.

The Azonto crooner shared his views during a recent episode of the When We Sit podcast, where he explained that Ghanaian musicians often have to fund their projects independently because securing financial backing from local investors can be difficult.

According to Sarkodie, wealthy Nigerians are more willing to take financial risks by investing in their country’s entertainment industry and supporting homegrown talents. He believes this gives Nigerian artists an advantage as they pursue major international opportunities.

Speaking about the challenges Ghanaian musicians face when seeking funding, the rapper explained that even presenting a business plan does not guarantee that potential investors will be willing to provide financial support.

“What Ghanaian artists do is organic. I give a business plan, even with that it is hard to get some people to come in. But in Nigeria, I think they take a lot of risk, most of the rich people with money, take a lot of risk to put their people on. If I breakdown what it takes to do the O2 Arena, you will freak out, but then we still have to do it,” he said.

Sarkodie’s remarks highlight the financial challenges Ghanaian artists encounter when attempting to expand their careers and stage major international shows. He also pointed to the substantial cost of organising performances at prestigious venues such as the O2 Arena, stressing the financial commitment required to compete on the global stage.
