Gov. Fubara’s 5,000-Teacher Recruitment: ONC Commends Transparency And Education Drive

Notable Niger Delta socio-cultural group, the Orashi National Congress, ONC, has commended the Rivers State Government as the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board, RSUBEB, officially commenced documentation for newly recruited teachers under Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The recruitment, approved by the Rivers State Executive Council in 2026, provides for 5,000 teachers across the state, comprising 3,000 for primary and junior secondary schools under RSUBEB and 2,000 for post-primary institutions.

In a statement signed by its President General, Amb. Comrade Emeni Ibe, the ONC said it received with great joy the news that the government’s drive to strengthen public education has entered a new phase.

The group specifically commended Governor Fubara for keeping his promise on job creation and education, describing the employment of 5,000 Rivers youths as teachers as a masterstroke that addresses both education quality and youth unemployment at a time of high unemployment.

It also commended RSUBEB Chairman, Hon. Samuel Ogeh, for personally supervising the ongoing documentation and verification exercise, noting that his presence to ensure transparency, credibility and that only qualified candidates are engaged is highly commendable and should be emulated by other boards.

The ONC further lauded the Port Harcourt Water Corporation for pledging to collaborate with RSUBEB by providing potable water and renovating toilet facilities in selected schools to improve sanitation and create a better learning environment for Rivers children.

According to the group, the initiative underscores Governor Fubara’s commitment to education, job creation and building a brighter future for Rivers State under the SIMplified Movement.

The ONC noted that the Orashi zone, with many rural riverine schools lacking teachers, will be a major beneficiary and urged that Orashi sons and daughters who applied and are qualified be fairly documented.

It advised all newly recruited teachers to show dedication, punctuality and be role models to Rivers children, adding that to whom much is given, much is expected.

The ONC said it stands firmly with the administration’s human capital development agenda.
