A young Nigerian businessman has expressed frustration over the country’s economic situation, lamenting that government policies are making it increasingly difficult for people to grow their businesses and improve their standard of living.
According to the businessman, Nigerians often find themselves struggling whenever they begin to make progress, as new policies and economic challenges continue to affect their sources of income.
“Anytime someone tries to take their life to the next level, this government introduces a policy that makes everything worse.”
Reflecting on his own experience, he revealed that he was doing well in business in 2022 through Bitcoin and gift card trading. However, he said his business was affected after Bitcoin-related transactions came under tighter scrutiny, leading to problems with his bank.
He explained that the situation eventually forced him to explore other business opportunities. In 2023 and 2024, he ventured into car sales, hoping to establish another reliable source of income.
However, the businessman said the sharp increase in vehicle prices has also made the car business increasingly challenging.
“Lexus cars that used to sell for ₦8–9 million now cost more than ₦20 million. I can’t even find cars to sell anymore,” he said.
He lamented that the rising cost of goods and services has made it difficult for entrepreneurs to operate profitably, particularly those who depend on buying and reselling products.
His comments have highlighted the difficulties faced by some Nigerian business owners as they navigate changing regulations, rising prices and the broader economic challenges affecting the country.
