Governor Otti Announces Commencement of Surveys for Proposed Obeaku Seaport in Abia

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced that China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), the construction firm behind Nigeria’s Lekki Deep Sea Port, has commenced feasibility and hydrographic surveys for the proposed Obeaku Seaport project in Ukwa East Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Otti disclosed that the surveys mark a significant step toward the realization of the seaport project, which is expected to transform Abia into a major maritime and commercial hub in the South-East region.

According to the state government, the proposed seaport is designed to stimulate economic growth, attract investments, create employment opportunities, and enhance maritime trade activities within Abia State and beyond.

The government noted that the involvement of CHEC, a globally recognized infrastructure company with experience in major port developments, underscores the seriousness of the project and its long-term economic potential.

Meanwhile, stakeholders and residents of the Obeaku community have reaffirmed their support for the seaport initiative, describing it as a landmark project that will bring development and prosperity to the area.
