A group known as Lawyers and Public Interest Analysts has urged the Federal Government not to sweep under the carpet allegations of certificate forgery levelled against the former Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji.
A rights activist, Liborous Oshoma, who spoke on behalf of the group with reporters in Lagos, noted that the former minister was arrested last week by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), following a bench warrant issued by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
The former minister has denied the allegations and remains presumed innocent pending the court’s decision.
Oshoma condemned the delay in prosecuting the former minister, stating that the situation once again highlights the speed with which the system brings ordinary, average, and unconnected Nigerians to justice, in stark contrast to the sluggishness, silence, and even inaction often displayed when it comes to the rich and influential.
He argued that a nation operating different rules for the rich and the poor effectively digs the grave of democracy and the rule of law.
He therefore called on President Bola Tinubu and his government to ensure that the matter is not swept under the carpet by powerful individuals within or outside government.
Oshoma further demanded the refund of all salaries and allowances drawn by the former minister from the Federal Government between 2023 and October 2025, describing such restitution as not only just but also a deterrent to others who might be tempted to follow the same path.
He also called on the Federal Government to review all official actions and decisions taken by the former minister during his time in office.
