Gunmen Kpa! APC Chieftain, Kidnap Another Passenger Along Kogi Expressway

Gunmen have reportedly killed Ishaq Yunusa, a divisional chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, during an attack along the Itobe-Ochadamu Expressway in Ofu LGA. Another passenger travelling in his vehicle was reportedly abducted.

The incident reportedly happened around 5 p.m. near Ojuwo Olijo, where the attackers allegedly emerged from the bush and opened fire on vehicles using the route.

Yunusa was reportedly travelling to Lokoja in a blue Toyota Corolla when the gunmen attacked. He was later found dead inside the vehicle, while another occupant was reportedly taken into the bush.

The Kogi State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the incident and deployed security operatives to the area to search for the abducted passenger and apprehend the attackers.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Afusat, said security personnel were searching the surrounding area as efforts continued to rescue the victim and track down those behind the attack.

Yunusa’s remains were reportedly taken to Grimard Hospital in Anyigba for an autopsy as the investigation continues.

The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, has also ordered sustained security operations along the route and directed officers to intensify efforts to arrest the perpetrators.

The police urged residents and motorists using the Itobe-Ochadamu corridor to remain alert and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies.
