GUO Transport confirms driver killed in armed robbery ambush on Benin road

A tragic highway attack along the Okada–Benin Road has claimed the life of a driver attached to GUO Transport Co., after armed robbers ambushed a company vehicle on Saturday, April 18, 2026.

The bus, a Toyota Hiace, was reportedly travelling empty from Lagos to Onitsha when it was intercepted by armed men on the busy corridor, a route long troubled by cases of robbery and violent attacks.

The incident turned fatal, leaving the driver dead at the scene.

Reacting, the company described the development as a devastating loss to its operations and staff community.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Management of GUO Transport Co.

It reads: “It is with profound sadness that GUO Transport Co. confirms a tragic incident involving one of our vehicles on Saturday, April 18, 2026.

“A Toyota Hiace bus, dispatched empty from Lagos to Onitsha, was ambushed by armed robbers along the Okada-Benin Road.

“We regret to confirm that the incident resulted in the loss of our driver. This is a deeply painful loss to the entire GUO family. Our immediate focus is to support his family during this difficult time, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to them.

“We commend the efforts of the relevant security agencies and government authorities, and we respectfully urge intensified action to address the persistent security challenges on this corridor.

“We appreciate the concern and support shown by the public. We kindly request privacy and respect for the bereaved family as they grieve.”
