Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress in Kano State and former deputy governor, has expressed concern over the growing security challenges in parts of the state.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, Gwarzo said criminal activities have increased in both urban and rural communities, with residents facing frequent attacks, killings and kidnappings.
He described the situation as worrying, saying many people now live in fear because of the rising incidents of violence.
The former deputy governor also criticised the Kano State government, alleging that it has not done enough to protect lives and property despite repeated complaints from residents across different parts of the state.
According to him, several local government areas have experienced serious attacks resulting in deaths and significant property losses.
He said: “What is happening in some parts of Kano is deeply troubling. In some places, many people have been killed, their property taken away, while others have been kidnapped, and their fate remains unknown.”
Gwarzo further claimed that insecurity is no longer limited to rural areas, arguing that incidents of killings and attacks are also being reported within Kano city.
He said the situation highlights the need for a review of current security strategies to ensure lasting peace and safety across the state.
