According to reports shared on Brekete Family, the incident began in September 2025 after Deborah welcomed the man, identified as Emmanuel Mike, into her home. She said she trusted him enough to let him stay overnight, but what followed left her devastated.
Deborah explained that the man claimed his phone was off and asked to use hers. That decision, she says, changed everything.
“When I returned, he was gone. My phone, gas, clothes, and savings box were also gone,” she recounted emotionally.
The savings box reportedly contained money she had been keeping for years through daily ₦3,000 contributions, which she believed was safe until that moment.
For weeks, she tried to locate him without success, even involving the police. But the case took a dramatic twist when she later logged into Facebook and saw pre-wedding photos of the same man, along with a wedding invitation.
Shocked, she tracked him down to St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Kakuri, Kaduna State, where the wedding was scheduled to take place. With police assistance, the man was confronted at the church.
He reportedly admitted to taking her belongings, saying he had already sold them. A restitution agreement of ₦1.7 million was later discussed with his family, though there are claims the payment has not been fully settled.
The matter has since been escalated by authorities as investigation continues.
