Christian actor and filmmaker Damilola Mike-Bamiloye has disclosed that his father, veteran Christian filmmaker Mike Bamiloye, initially turned down the idea of remaking the 1993 classic Christian movie, Agbara Nla.
Damilola revealed that he and his brother, Joshua, first presented the remake idea to their father about four years ago. However, Mike Bamiloye reportedly told them that the time was not right for the project.
According to Damilola, the idea was revived last year after he discussed it with a producer identified as Chris, who encouraged them to revisit the project.
He explained that after further discussions and prayers, they approached their father again, and this time, he gave them the go-ahead.
Damilola said, “We presented the idea to dad, but he told us it was not yet time. We respected that decision and left it at that.”
He added that when they eventually returned to their father, “he did not discourage us. Instead, he gave us his approval and said, ‘Yes, go ahead and do it.’”
The filmmaker disclosed that Agbara Nla: The Return was filmed within approximately 20 to 21 days. The new production brings back some of the original characters while reworking the story to connect with a modern audience.
Damilola also spoke about the experience of directing his father, who reprises his role as Isawuru in the new movie.
He described the moment as emotional, recalling how he watched the original Agbara Nla as a four-year-old and would imitate his father’s character alongside his siblings.
According to him, the remake maintains the core message of the original movie while introducing new characters, locations and elements to the storyline.
Agbara Nla: The Return is scheduled for a nationwide cinema release. Damilola said the production was created to give viewers a complete cinematic experience while remaining faithful to Mount Zion’s Christian filmmaking vision.
