A marital dispute has ended in tragedy after a woman allegedly stabbed her husband to death.

The man, identified as Kangwa Mumbi from Chipata District in Zambia, died on June 19 following a 4 pm incident involving his estranged Malawian wife.
Kangwa had reportedly separated from his wife, Agness Zulu, and the two had been living separately in different houses within the same town.
He visited Agness at her residence, where they became involved in an argument that quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.
How did Chipata man die?
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba, while confirming the incident, stated that the altercation turned deadly when the deceased allegedly stabbed his estranged wife in the spine first.

Although she collapsed to the ground following the attack, she reportedly managed to wrestle Kangwa, take the knife from him and stab him in the upper left side of his chest.
According to police officers who rushed to the scene, the man’s body was found lying face down in a pool of blood, approximately six metres from the suspect’s house.
Kangwa sustained a single deep cut wound on the left side of his chest, with blood covering much of his body.
Authorities also recovered the murder weapon as investigations into the killing continue.
Agness, who was also gravely injured after suffering a stab wound to her spine, was rushed to a local hospital for emergency treatment before being referred to Chipata Central Hospital for specialised care.
Despite being hospitalised, police confirmed that she was in stable condition and under police guard.
Meanwhile, Kangwa’s body was transferred to the Chipata Central Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

“In my view, the woman acted in self-defence. The court may find sufficient grounds to acquit her, or alternatively, it may consider a verdict depending on the evidence presented. However, based on the circumstances, I believe her actions were defensive rather than intentional.”
