A woman was allegedly gang-raped after being dragged away from her home by a gang of men armed with homemade weapons. Police have confirmed that three men have been arrested following the reported attack on Saturday, June 13.
The suspects allegedly arrived at the woman’s house on Saturday night before threatening her with weapons. They then forcibly took her to a secluded location where she was raped. The woman informed her family about what happened despite the gang threatening to kill her if she reported the attack. Police launched an immediate investigation and have now arrested three young men following a series of overnight raids in the area. However, they are still searching for two other men in connection with the reported rape.
As reported by The Daily Star, the woman was allegedly kidnapped and raped in Jashore, located in southwestern Bangladesh, on Saturday night. Police are continuing to investigate the attack.
It has been confirmed that Hasib Al Hasan, 19, Abdur Rahman Imon, 20, and Mehedi Hasan Tutul, 21, have all been arrested in connection with the alleged rape. They are accused of threatening the victim with homemade weapons before taking her to a secluded area and raping her.
Maruf Hossain, a local police officer, said on Monday (June 15): “The three arrested accused were produced before a Jashore court this afternoon, while drives are continuing to apprehend the two absconding suspects.”
The gang reportedly threatened to kill the woman if she reported the attack to the authorities. However, she informed her family about what happened before the police were informed.
An immediate investigation was launched as officers raided homes across the area. Police said efforts are continuing to find the remaining suspects.
Jashore, which has a population of over 2.7 million people, is a major city in the south west of Bangladesh. It is known for its rich history, including being the site of the nation’s first liberated district in the 1971 Liberation War.
