A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Akure has ordered the remand of a 21-year-old carpenter, Anthony Alabi, over the alleged murder of a 58-year-old woman, Veronica Olaseni
The defendant was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on murder and theft. However, the presiding magistrate, Temitope Adurota, declined to take his plea, citing lack of jurisdiction, and ordered that he be remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
During proceedings, the suspect reportedly made a disturbing confession, admitting to engaging in intercourse with the deceased after her death.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Folashade Adebayo, told the court that the incident occurred on March 2, 2026, in Iboropa-Akoko, located in Akoko North-East Local Government Area.
According to the prosecution, the suspect had gone to the victim’s farm to steal cashew nuts but allegedly strangled the woman after she recognized him. He is also accused of stealing valuables, including an Infinix mobile phone, a cutlass, and an ATM card belonging to the deceased.
The case has been adjourned until June 6, 2026, for mention, while the case file has been forwarded to the DPP for further legal action.
