A 70-year-old woman, Godwoman Gboriye, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) after she was allegedly found with 876kg of cannabis in Bayelsa State.

Gboriye was arrested alongside three other suspects during an operation at Ovom, Yenagoa, the state capital, according to Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy NDLEA in a statement on Sunday.

The suspects were allegedly in possession of 110 bags of cannabis weighing 876kg when they were arrested.
The other suspects were identified as Motombo Silver, 44; Pere Andrew, 39; and Keme Andrew, 43.

The arrest was part of a series of nationwide operations by the anti-narcotics agency in which large quantities of cannabis, synthetic drugs and pharmaceutical opioids were seized.

In another operation in Ondo State, NDLEA officers acting on intelligence raided a residence along Oke-Iya, Ijoka Road, Akure, where they recovered 186kg of cannabis concealed in the boot of a Toyota Avalon car.

A 58-year-old suspect, Paul Ogbuwala, was arrested in connection with the seizure. He allegedly planned to transport the consignment to Jos for onward distribution.

In Kaduna State, a female suspect, Hannah Michael, was also arrested at Gonin Gora with 369.6kg of cannabis.
The agency further destroyed 4,832.56kg of cannabis, locally known as skunk, during operations on illicit farms in Usen Forest, Igwe-Oke Forest and Ogboha Forest in Edo State.

A 39-year-old suspect, Sunday Segun, was arrested during the operation.
The NDLEA also reported the interception of two consignments of synthetic cannabis, popularly known as Colorado, allegedly shipped from the United Kingdom.

At the import shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, operatives intercepted a consolidated cargo containing 27 parcels of Colorado weighing 32.20kg.

A real estate agent, Abideen Jide Salami, was arrested on September 9 after allegedly arriving to collect a large luggage containing the drug using a secret collection code reportedly sent by his brother in the UK.

A second UK-linked consignment containing 12.25kg of Colorado was also intercepted, leading to the arrest of its alleged recipient, 44-year-old Nurudeen Abiodun Kadiri.

The NDLEA said Kadiri claimed his brother in the UK sent the consignment.
In Lagos, operatives also intercepted Colorado concealed inside music speakers at the Maza Maza motor park and Iddo park.

The agency said one of the consignments was being transported through Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to Liberia.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the officers involved in the operations and urged them to sustain efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks across the country.

He said drug supply routes through airports, seaports, land borders and the hinterland, including cannabis cultivation areas, must continue to be targeted.
