Veteran Yoruba film star Dele Odule has spoken candidly about one of the darkest chapters of his life.
In a recently circulated interview, the actor popular for his role in Ti Oluwa Ni Ile revealed that he once reached such a low point that he considered his own burial arrangements, even going as far as checking the price of a coffin.
Reflecting on that period, Odule said he was living in Abeokuta when everything around him seemed to be falling apart. According to him, the weight of his struggles left him feeling lost and unable to see a way forward.
“I once priced my own casket when my life was in disarray in Abeokuta,” he shared. “I lost my sense of self and didn’t believe I could overcome what I was going through.”
He also recalled that fellow actor Olaiya Igwe was present during that difficult moment. Odule noted that the experience deeply affected his colleague, who became emotional upon witnessing his state.
Born in Ile-Ife and originally from Oru Ijebu, Odule has built a long-standing career in the Nigerian film industry since the late 1980s. Over the years, he has earned respect for his contributions to both stage and screen, and he previously served as president of the Theatre Arts and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria.
