In an interview on Channels TV, Edafe addressed backlash over his reply to activist Rinu Oduala on X, where he had written: “Whenever I issue a statement, it turns you on. Why if I may ask?” He explained that his post was never meant to harm or offend anyone. “I personally do not think I need to apologize because there was no harm intended,” Edafe said. “It’s only when it is done with deliberate intention to hurt anybody that an apology is warranted.”
The controversy erupted after viral videos showed women being harassed during a fertility-related festival in Ozoro, Delta State. Edafe emphasized that the event, while poorly managed, did not involve official reports of rape, and the police quickly arrested 16 suspects—including the chief priest—who were transferred for further investigation.
While Edafe later deleted the contentious post, he stood by his explanation, noting that misinterpretations of his words were not his responsibility. “If people misinterpret what I have said, naturally it’s their fault,” he added.
